Head Coach Howard Schellenberger will guide FAU into a I-A schedule in 2004
Feb. 4, 2004
In the first signing day since announcing its intentions to move to I-A, Florida Atlantic University's football squad signed its largest class since its inception in 2000. 23 student-athletes have committed to attend FAU in the fall of 2004.
The new players will get the opportunity to play a I-A schedule next season as the team makes a transition into the Sun Belt Conference in the program's fourth season.
"I certainly want to congratulate our assistant coaches and football team for the outstanding job they have done on putting this superior class together," said head coach Howard Schnellenberger. "This class will equal or possibly surpass the great initial class that was brought in here. Obviously the success our football team has had on the field has played a significant role in our ability to attract such an outstanding group."
Schnellenberger helped guide the Owls to a no. 4 ranking, 11-3 record and was one step away from reaching the National Championship game in 2003. The squad finished the season with a Gridiron Power Index of 13.
