BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic University senior defensive lineman Haiden Nagel has been invited to the 2018 SPIRAL Tropical Bowl, scheduled for Sunday, Jan. 14 in Daytona Beach, Florida. More than 70 NFL and CFL scouts representing 26 teams are expected to be on hand. The game is scheduled to kick off at 9 a.m. and will be streamed live at http://bit.ly/2hwbdbi.
Nagel was a five-year member of the Owls’ football team. He began his journey as a walk-on in 2013. By season’s end, he the Owls had made a coaching change and the need to prove himself began again. Nagel saw action in 14 games as a redshirt freshman and tallied 21 tackles. He saw action in 11 games in 2015. Prior to the 2016 season, the Tampa native was placed on scholarship and he had earned a starting nod. He recorded 37 tackles, including 4.5 for a loss of yards, and 1.5 sacks. He graduated in the spring of 2017, recorded 17 tackles and 2.5 sacks playing for his third head coach and saw action in a season that would see the Owls capture a Conference USA and a CheriBundi Tart Cherry Boca Raton Bowl Championship.
FAU finished the season 11-3, with a program record-high 10-game win streak. Nagel finished his career with 81 tackles, including 9.5 for a loss of 41 yards. He had six career sacks, one fumble recovery and one pass defended.
