FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) - Jared Allen threw for two touchdowns and Florida Atlantic's defense intercepted Illinois State quarterback Yance Vaughan five times in the Owls' a 28-0 win on Saturday.
It was the first home win of the season for Florida Atlantic (7-3) and snapped a two-game losing streak for the Owls.
Illinois State (4-7) lost its third straight game. It was the first shutout against the Redbirds since Nov.2, 2002, a 9-0 loss to Western Kentucky.
Allen was 14-for-23 for 136 yards and threw touchdown passes to Larry Taylor and Doug Parker. Daveon Barron had a rushing touchdown.
Vaughan finished 11-for-27 for 169 yards for Illinois State, but completed just one pass in the first half.
In the third quarter, Florida Atlantic's Willie Hughley intercepted a Vaughan pass and returned it to the Illinois State 18-yard line. Six plays later, Parker caught a 13-yard touchdown pass from Allen to give the Owls a 25-0 lead.
Florida Atlantic had four scores in the first half. A blocked punt by the Owls' Troy Pindell went out of the end zone for a safety that made the score 18-0.
Earlier, Taylor caught a 9-yard touchdown pass from Allen to stretch the Florida Atlantic lead to 16-0.
Florida Atlantic scored on its opening possession, with Barron's 2-yard touchdown run capping a 12-play, 80-yard drive.
Mark Myers kicked two field goals for Florida Atlantic.
