MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (AP) - Jared Allen threw three second half touchdowns as Florida Atlantic scored 21 straight points in the third quarter to win its third straight road game this season, a 27-20 victory over Middle Tennessee on Saturday.
The Owls (3-0) will join Middle Tennessee (1-1) in the Sun Belt Conference next year, but have already beaten last year's conference champion North Texas and Hawaii this season.
Allen, who finished 16-of-25 with 273 yards, opened the second half with a 36-yard touchdown pass to Roosevelt Bynes. After a 2-yard pass to Anthony Crissinger-Hill, Allen found Larry Taylor in stride between the safeties and Taylor took the pass 47 yards for a touchdown to give the Owls a 27-17 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
The Blue Raiders had hoped to avenge last year's 20-19 loss after Allen completed a 62-yard pass on fourth down with no time left on the clock. But they lost their third straight home opener after Clint Marks threw three interceptions and never threatened to tie the game in the fourth quarter.
The Blue Raiders jumped out to a 17-6 halftime lead when Marks found Kerry Wright for a 2-yard touchdown midway through the second quarter. Wright finished with seven receptions for 149 yards, while Marks was 27-of-37 for 359 yards.
