In 2011, Rogers worked with a deep and talented corps of linebackers. He helped mentor the team's leading tackler in All-Missouri Valley Football Conference honoree Mike Lien (100 tackles). In joining the Jackrabbit coaching staff in 2010, Rogers coached the defensive backs serving primarily as the cornerbacks coach. Rogers served as the position coach for all conference honoree and NFL free agent Cole Brodie.
In 2005, Rogers signed to play football at South Dakota State University where he was a four-year starter, a three time all-conference selection at linebacker, a three time All-Academic selection and NSCA All-American. In 2007, he anchored a defense that won the Great West League Title beating the nationally ranked No. 1 team in which he was named SME Network National Defensive Player of the Week. In 2009, he was selected as a team captain and led his team to the school's first FCS playoff berth. He holds the SDSU school record for career tackles in FCS play. Prior to the start of the 2011 season he was selected as a member of the South Dakota State University All-Time Football Team. Rogers, who graduated with a degree in history, was a recipient of the 2009 MVFC Academic Excellence Award and the SDSU Impact award, awarded to the individual whose efforts made the biggest impact on the university.
A Native from Chandler, AZ., he began his prep career at Hamilton High School where he won four conference titles and two state titles. In his junior and senior seasons, Rogers was the Region Defensive Player of the Year, selected to the All-Arizona Team and recognized by Top Guns Magazine as the top linebacker in Arizona. Rogers finished his prep career at Hamilton with a record of 58-3.
