2001: Made is collegiate debut against Marist with nine carries for 33 yards and had two receptions for 34 yards...part of a dominate three-man rotation...had two games with 10 or more carries, the first was 13 carries against Jacksonville...the second was against Gardner-Webb...posted three games with 50+ yards...the first was against Drake, the squad’s first road game...the second was the following game against JU and his season high was 58 against Albany (NY), the season’s finale...scored his only TD against Drake...ended the season second on the squad in yards gained among the running backs, but first in average per rush at 4.9...also led the running backs in average yards per reception at 13.4 per game...was given the nickname “Tornado” during spring drills by running backs coach Fred O’Connor.
2000: His goal was to improve pass reception and to become more of an integral part of the pro-style offense...he and Doug Parker became a good one-two combination coming out of the backfield...he loves to play and to practice...one of the toughest running backs, if not the toughest.
High School: Played for Walter Frazier at Carol City High School...earned second-team All-County honors despite playing in only eight games due to a knee injury the last game of his junior season...after rehabilitation, he returned for his senior season to gain 984 yards.
FAU Assistant Coach Arnie Romero Upon Signing: “He would have been a highly recruited player, but the injury dissuaded some people...the friendship that our coaching staff has with Coach Frazier played a major role in D.J. being offered a scholarship. He was a steal in this year’s recruiting class.”
