Heather Henderson joined the football staff in November of 2012 with the primary focus on assisting with on-campus recruiting. In February 2013, following the compilation of the best signing class in the program's history, Henderson began assuming more duties. She was named the director of football operations in April of 2013. As DFO, Henderson is will join less than a handful of females in the position.

Henderson came to Florida Atlantic in the spring of 2004 as the Owls head cheer coach. She brought more than 20 years of cheerleading experience. Since that time, Henderson has guided FAU to several top-20 national finishes including a No. 1 finish in the 2013 Cheer Limited National Tournament in the Large Co-Ed division. Henderson is also the president and co-founder of CheerFormance X-Treme (CFX). CFX is tailored to cheerleaders of all ages, giving personal lessons to those wanting to make an elementary, middle, high school, or all-star level squad. CFX delivers a cutting edge approach to training nearly 200 cheer athletes each year.

As a cheerleader, Henderson was a co-captain on the University of South Carolina Varsity Cheerleading squad. She also worked with several high schools in South Carolina, choreographing numerous state championship routines. Enhancing her choreographing skills, Henderson worked directly with choreographer Charissa Seaman. Seaman has worked with such stars as, Britney Spears, Gregory Hines, Nancy Giles, and Donnie and Mary Osmond. Henderson has television experience herself with appearance on Star Search and Showstoppers. Henderson also received a dance scholarship to the famed L.A. Underground School of Dance. She is certified by the American Association of Cheerleading Coaches & Advisors (AACCA) and the Universal Cheerleading Association (UCA).
