Davis Merritt joined Florida Atlantic University’s football staff as an assistant director of player development in January of 2017.
At Ole Miss
Merritt came to FAU after three seasons as an Ole Miss graduate assistant, where he had the opportunity to work with Chris Kiffin, FAU’s current co-defensive coordinator, and defensive backs coach Corey Batoon, who also serves as FAU’s special teams coordinator and co-defensive coordinator. While at Ole Miss, Merritt helped coach the defensive backs, a unit which was key in the Rebels leading the nation in scoring defense (16.0 ppg) and fewest touchdowns allowed (24) in 2014. He was elevated from an intern, which he served one season, into the role of graduate assistant in 2013.
At Mississippi State
Merritt joined the Ole Miss staff after one season at Mississippi State, where he served as a student assistant from March 2011 to March 2013, primarily working with the DBs.
Hometown: Hattiesburg, Miss.
Education: Earned his bachelor’s degree in kinesiology from Mississippi State in May of 2013. Completed his master’s degree in communications in journalism and news media at Ole Miss
Family: Married to the former Kathleen Carollo.
