Question from Rick
Just a "word" of encouragement...
A lot of folks tend to "rant" and "spout off" when the going gets tough...We'll support you when you win, but vanish when you lose...otherwise known as South Florida Fickle Fans...

Well, I say best of luck to them! If you aren't for us, you are against us...

31-0, or 0-31, I am with You and this Team...Been following FAU Hoops since 92' and there have only been four DI seasons in the Black - two of which you were on staff...(coincidence? I don't think so)

This brings me to a recent observation...We all know things have been tough this year, BUT:

It appears we have a clear path to host another game if we win four of our remaining seven SBC games, as these teams are below us, or a win would put them below us - thus leaving us as the 8th seed...this is an awesome opportunity! To be in control of our own destiny is a great spot to be in....the SAME spot we were in last year...a couple weeks ago, who would have "thunk it"?

Anyway, keep up the great work...please accept my sincere prayer for very successful remainder of the season!

Always an Owl Fan!

Response from Head Coach Rex Walters
Thanks for the kind words. I have been pretty happy with the support that we have received for our home games. The great thing about South Florida is that there is so much to do. We will continue to work and build this basketball program so that “Game Night” is truly the Place to be. It may not happen over night, but I do feel that the coaching staff and players are working very hard to put a good team on the floor to watch. Your support is great appreciated it.

I hope you are right about a clear path to hosting a first round SBC tournament game. We have an awful lot of work to do to get there. I promise that we will work hard to try and make that happen. Thank you again for your support, it does not go unnoticed.

Question from J-Me
At one point on Saturday night I looked up at the score board and saw a combined 34 fouls, this being with six minutes left in the game. Savannah State already had a player fouled out, making it a total of 39 fouls. The opponent’s coach had the wrong idea to play physical and give up that many fouls and I know the Rex philosophy is not to foul that often. What happened?

You guys did a great job settling in late in the game to close them out! You also have developed a great full court press defense which I think will work to your advantage here down the stretch. Just keep telling your guys to keep your hands up & feet planted!

We're looking forward to a solid end to the season! See you on the 9th, screaming from center court!

Response from Head Coach Rex Walters
Thanks for the email, comments and questions. I would really prefer to play a game where there isn't as much fouling, but the players made some adjustments and we came away with the win. When you have two teams that play more full court defenses and presses, there is going to be a lot of fouls called. When the game speeds up, fouls are usually going to result. I agree with you that we need to keep our knees bent, feet moving (but on the floor), and hands out and up. There have been some good improvements with the play of the team and that has so much to do with the players work during the course of the season. We need to continue to do this in order to finish the regular-season strongly. Thanks again for the kind words and I look forward to seeing you at the games.
