Question from Justin

Sammy Hernadez? Good for you coach. You have a solid young core there. Just need that big man to pull it all together. But the improvement of playing ability will be showing its face soon. How is Perkins doing? Are you done for next year or are you still looking for one more?

Royster, Owens, Hernadez and Nwogi (who's having a hell of year at Redlands). Will that be the class?

Just get Monroe back on the floor and the W's will be staking up.

Response from Coach Walters

Justin,

Thanks for the email! We are very excited about Sammy to say the least.

We will never stop recruiting and are always looking for student-athletes that want to be a part of something special. Xavier is doing a good job for us and we are looking to find out more about his full availability soon. Thank you for your support and please get out to the "Burrow" to see us in action.

Sincerely,

Rex Walters

Question from Justin
I read in the Sun Sentinel that the FAU Arena is getting a nine million dollar makeover in March. I think its great but I'm just wondering what cost nine million without expanding it? Seats, locker rooms, new entrance and a roof??? I'm no engineer but sounds like someone sold you the Brooklyn Bridge.

After this makeover how much nicer will it be? Will it help in recruiting?

After Royster, Owens and Hernandez is there any scholarships available? What about Sutton? Any chance on a return?

Any legit big men out there that haven't been signed?

And last but not least, good job in New Orleans, but what the hell happened in Alabama? 101 points? Did Roy call you up and rip you a new one on that?

Seriously though, your doing a hell of job, coach of the year in my book. Good luck with the rest of the season.

Response from Head Coach Rex Walters
Justin,
You are on a roll my man! The upgrades to the Arena will definitely help in all aspects of the basketball and athletic programs. The Locker Room is our home and as a coach you always want to give your players the best that you can give them. We are all very excited about the possible changes to FAU Arena.

On the recruiting end, we never (I mean NEVER) stop recruiting. We are always on the look out for fine student-athletes and will continue to do so. Obviously, I can not comment on who we are recruiting, but if he is a basketball player that does the work in the classroom and can help us on the basketball court...we are going to recruit him.

Thank you for the comments on the UNO game. We were very efficient offensively and there fore came away with a road win. We did not take care of the ball (in the 1st Half) versus South Alabama and it led to a lot of easy baskets against for USA. There is no question that we will continue to work hard to improve our assist to turnover ratio and if we do this, we will be in and win more ball games.

I appreciate your passion for the Owl Basketball program and look forward to hearing from you again.

Sincerely,

Rex Walters

P.S. I did not talk to Coach Williams after the game...but he would have said the same thing that I just told you. "Take care of the ball on offense!"
