Boca Raton, FL - Junior basketball player Greg Gantt has been named Florida Athletic University's Student-Athlete of the Week after averaging 18 points in three games during last weekend's World Vision Classic in Seattle.
Gantt, junior guard from Gainesville, led the Owls in scoring in all three contests. He started the season with a 23-point effort in a 70-65 loss to Portland, before adding 14 points against the University of Washington of the Pac 12 Conference. Then, he paced the Owls with 17 points in the team's 84-77 victory over Georgia State on November 14.
For the season, Gannt is shooting 42 percent from the floor and made 11 of his 27 shots (41 percent) from behind the three-point line. He also leads the team with five steals and has grabbed four rebounds per game.
The men's basketball team takes a 1-3 record into its first home game on Saturday, November 19, against George Mason University, starting at 7 p.m., at the FAU Arena, 777 Glades Road in Boca Raton. The game is the first advance sellout in school history.
Other FAU sporting events this week include the women's basketball team hosting Webber International University on Friday, November 18, starting at 7 p.m. and Bethune-Cookman on Sunday, November 20, at 2 p.m. Both games will be played in the FAU Arena.
The men's and women's swimming and diving teams will participate in the Georgia Tech Invitational, beginning on Friday in Atlanta. The event will last through Sunday. Also, several members of the swimming program will participate in Florida Gulf Coast's Winter Championships in Plantation on Friday.
