Boca Raton, Fla. - Senior cross country runner Friederike Feil and junior basketball player Alex Tucker have been honored as Florida Atlantic University’s Student-Athletes of the Week after having standout performances last weekend.

Feil continued to put her name in the FAU record books, with a school-record time at the NCAA South Regional meet, while Tucker helped lead the Owls to a 2-1 record to open the hardwood season.

Feil’s time (20:38.44) over the 6-kilometer course broke the previous school record by more than a minute and was good for an 18th place finish -- the best individual placing for an FAU women’s runner in a regional meet. Her performance helped the Owls finish 13th, which tied for the best team finish in school history.

Meanwhile, Tucker was named to the all-tournament team of the Athletes in Action Classic after averaging 14 points. His performances featured a career-high 18 points in Saturday’s victory over UW-Milwaukee. Tucker also tallied 11 assists, nine rebounds and five steals throughout the tournament.

Other nominees for this week’s Student-Athlete of the Week honors were football players Jeff Van Camp and Yourhighness Morgan, men’s swimmer Adam Corbin and women’s basketball player Kimberly Smith.

The change of seasons hits the FAU athletic schedule this week, with the men’s basketball team hosting its home opener on Wednesday, November 17 with a game against Warner Southern at the FAU Arena, tipping off at 7 p.m. The team will also play American University at home on Saturday, November 20, at 1 p.m. The women’s basketball team plays its first road games of the 2010-11 season, traveling to Jacksonville for contests against Jacksonville University on Wednesday, at 7 p.m., and North Florida on Friday, November 19, at 7 p.m.

Also, the football team put its three-game winning streak on the line Saturday against the University of Texas, starting at 3:30 p.m. The men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams will travel to the Georgia Tech Invitational in Atlanta from Friday through Sunday, November 21.
