The Florida Atlantic University men's basketball team will officially begin its 2012-13 season on Sunday, November 11 when they travel to the Dean E. Smith Center to play #11 North Carolina as part of the EA Sports Maui Invitational.
Senior guard Greg Gantt was a preseason second-team all-conference selection after leading the team in scoring for the third straight season. Gantt is on track to become the program's all-time leading scorer this season.
FAU will have several players looking to make their first official appearance in an Owls' uniform including Parade All-American Stefan Moody and 7-foot Baylor transfer Dragan Sekelja. FAU held off crosstown rival Lynn in an 87-80 exhibition victory over on Monday night.
The #11 Tar Heels began their 2012-13 regular season with a 76-59 defeat of Gardner-Webb on Friday night. Preseason All-ACC selection James Michael McAdoo had a double-double in the win, scoring 26 points and pulling down 14 rebounds, setting career highs in both categories. UNC won the only previous meeting between the two schools,105-52, back on December 19, 2006.
