With a new coaching staff and six new players, Florida Atlantic University was picked to finish in sixth place in the Atlantic Sun preseason coaches poll. The media members have the Owls finishing in fourth place.
New head coach Matt Doherty is optimistic his team will be very competitive in the Atlantic Sun. "I am looking forward to laying the foundation of a solid program at FAU. We have all the ingredients to have success in the future."
Defending conference champions Gardner-Webb received 20 first-place votes from the media and three from the coaches to earn the top spot in both polls. East Tennessee State University locked down the second slot in both polls and was picked to win the conference tournament by the coaches, while Gardner-Webb was the media's choice for tournament champion.
Rounding out the coaches' preseason rankings is Belmont in third, Lipscomb in fourth, Mercer in fifth, Stetson trails FAU in seventh, followed by Jacksonville. Campbell is picked ninth, trailed by Kennesaw State in 10th and North Florida in 11th.
