BOCA RATON, Fla. - The Florida Atlantic University men’s basketball team received a Team Academic Excellence Award from the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC), the organization announced Wednesday.

The Owls won the award after posting a team grade point average higher than 3.0 during the 2016-17 academic year, including a 3.21 team GPA in the spring. Gerdarius Troutman made the Dean’s List for being ranked in the top 10 percent of his college, in addition to being named to the Conference USA All-Academic Team. Eight members of the squad also were named to the FAU All-Academic Team last spring.

“We are appreciative of this recognition from the NABC. Our team has shown outstanding performance in the classroom and this award is a testament to their hard work and dedication,” said FAU Head Men’s Basketball Coach Michael Curry. “This academic success is indicative of the culture our program expects from our student-athletes. I'm very proud of our players, past and present, for creating and maintaining this standard of excellence.”

The team has already begun preparation for the upcoming season, and the schedule for the 2017-18 campaign will be released in the coming weeks. To keep up with FAU men’s basketball, logon to or follow the team on social media at FAU_Hoops.
