BOCA RATON, FL - On Thursday April 11, members of the Florida Atlantic University men's and women's basketball team as well as the dance team will read to students at J.C. Mitchell Elementary School. The event starts at 9 a.m. Members of the FAU volleyball team recently participated in a similar event at A.D. Henderson Elementary School.

FAU men's basketball players Greg Gantt, Andre Mattison and Jordan McCoy will be part of the group. The student-athletes will read a book to the kids. That will be followed by a discussion with each class stressing the importance of reading, academic achievement, making good decisions, staying off drugs and how to resist peer pressure. Each student will also receive a free book at the end of the day to let them practice reading on their own.

The event is sponsored by the 2nd and 7 Foundation, which was started by former Ohio State University football players Mike Vrabel, Luke Fickell and Ryan Miller. The purpose of the foundation is to promote literacy and provide positive role models to young children. FAU is one of six schools that have adopted the program nationwide.
