BOCA RATON, FL - As Florida Atlantic University's basketball and swimming and diving teams finish up their competitive seasons, standout performances by Stefan Moody and Eszter Bucz have earned them FAU's student-athlete of the week award. Moody placed a new personal record during a win against FIU, while Bucz earned two gold medals and the 2013 Sun Belt Conference Most Outstanding Swimmer of the Year award at the conference championship.
Moody had arguably his best of the season in Saturday's home finale against FIU. He scored a career high 28 points and seven rebounds in a 77-60 win over rival FIU. The win helped secure the no. 7 seed for the Owls at the upcoming Sun Belt conference tournament. For the year, the Parade all-American is second on the team in both scoring (15.2 points per game) and rebounding (4.3 per game). Moody has also been named Sun Belt Player of the Week, this week.
The Owls will head to Hot Springs, AR for the Sun Belt Conference Tournament as the no. 7 seed. They will play the 10th seeded Troy Trojans in a first round game at 9:30 p.m. eastern on Friday. Live stats and live audio of the game will be available at www.fausports.com.
Bucz took two first-place finishes during Florida Atlantic's appearance at the Sun Belt Conference Championship in Texas over the weekend. Her two medals were earned in the 200 yard IM (1:58.48) and 200 yard breast (2:11.69). Bucz has now earned a total of six SBC gold medals in her career with FAU. The senior also swam for the 400 free relay, 400 medley relay, and 200 medley relay teams, all of which hit the pad third.
Florida Atlantic's swimming and diving team will find out on Wednesday, March 6, if Bucz will represent the Owls in the NCAA D1 Championships on March 20.
