BOCA RATON, FL - Greg Gantt, one of the most consistent players in the Sun Belt Conference this season, has been named the SBC Men's Basketball Player of the Week after leading the Owls (18-7, 10-1 SBC) to a 2-0 record last week.
Gantt, a sophomore from Gainesville, Fla., averaged 17 points in the two games last week scoring 19 points in the win over FIU and 15 points in the win over North Texas. The win over North Texas snapped the Mean Green's 17-game home winning streak while also giving FAU Head Coach Mike Jarvis his 400th career win. Gantt was instrumental again in the game against FIU, leading the Owls in scoring and grabbing the key defensive rebound that led to the game-winning basket by teammate Brett Royster.
On the season Gantt ranks fifth overall in the SBC and leads the Owls with a 14.7 points per game scoring average. Gantt is the second Owl of the season to win Player of the Week, joining teammate Raymond Taylor, who won on Dec. 21.
FAU travels to Denver to take on the West Division leading Pioneers (11-12, 7-3 SBC) on Thursday. The game will be televised on Fox Sports Rocky Mountain and starts 9 p.m. Live audio of the game will be available at www.fausports.com.
