BOCA RATON, FL - Colgate University rallied from a 10-point deficit to defeat Florida Atlantic University, 81-75, Thursday afternoon at FAU Gymnasium in Boca Raton, FL. Quinton Young led the Owls with 17 points while Kahleaf Watson added 16. Colgate's Jon Simon led all scorers with 21 points as the Raiders shot 67-percent from the field in the second half. FAU falls to 1-8 while the Raiders improve to 4-8.
Early on, it appeared the Owls would have their way, going on an 11-0 run to take an 11-2 lead. The Owls forced the Raiders into nine turnovers in the game's first seven minutes, due in large part to a full-court press. FAU took a 16-6 lead before the Raiders crept back to within five points three times, including at the half at 41-36.
The second half belonged to Colgate, as it converted on 18 of its 27 shots. The Raiders hit 5-of-7 three-pointers in the second half and 8-of-16 for the game. Simon scored 13 of his 21 points in the second half, including two treys.
The Raiders scored the first seven points of the second half to take a 43-41 lead. They would never trail again, building as much as a nine-point lead.
For the game, Colgate shot 55-percent compared to FAU's 52-percent. The Owls outrebounded the Raiders 30-26, but committed 21 turnovers and forced 18.
