SAN DIEGO, CA -- Florida Atlantic University was defeated by San Diego State University, 91-75, Saturday night in San Diego, CA. Chris Thomas led FAU with 19 points while SDSU was led by Evan Burns, who scored a game-high 21.
FAU (4-7) kept the game close for the first eight minutes and led 19-17 with 11:58 remaining in the first half. SDSU (6-3) then went on a 9-0 run and led by as many as 15 in the first half before taking a 51-41 advantage at the break.
A jumper by Earnest Crumbley to open the second half pulled FAU to within eight points, but that was as close as the Owls would get as SDSU opened up as much as a 21-point lead with 4:19 left in the game.
"I was very pleased with their point production," said FAU head coach Sidney Green on Thomas and Bishop combining for 30 points. "As they continue to familiarize themselves with game situations, it will make us a better team."
Turnovers cost the Owls as they gave up the ball 26 times compared to just 17 by the Aztecs. FAU was also outrebounded 39-33. Wes Edwards led the Owls with 10 rebounds while Aerick Sanders led all rebounders with 11. Both teams shot 47 percent from the field.
FAU concludes its non-conference play Monday night at UC-Irvine. The game is scheduled to begin at 10:35pm EST and can be heard live on WLVJ 1040-AM.
