TROY, AL - Raymond Taylor scored 10 of his 24 points in the extra session and the Florida Atlantic men's basketball team defeated Troy 82-77 in overtime on Thursday night.
The Owls (7-5, 1-0 Sun Belt) trailed for most of regulation and were behind by four with 3:26 remaining in regulation when Raymond Taylor sandwiched two threes around a Trojan jumper to take a one-point lead. Greg Gantt put FAU ahead by three with 39 ticks left. Troy (1-8, 0-1) tied the game on a Regis Huddleston three pointer. Gantt had a look for a game winner at the buzzer but missed and the two teams headed to overtime.
Taylor began overtime with another one of his six threes on the night to put the Owls ahead. The score was tied at 75 when Taylor scored FAU's last seven points of the game to help seal the win. Brett Royster (13), Shavar Richardson (12) and Gantt (12) joined Taylor in double figures. The Owls won their Sun Belt opener for the first time since the 2006-07 season.
FAU continues its five game road trip with a trip to ULM on Sunday. The game is scheduled for 7 p.m. eastern and will live audio will be available at www.fausports.com. The game will also be televised as part of the Sun Belt Network package and will be shown locally on CSS.
