COLLEGE PARK, MD - Marquan Botley scored a career high 18 points, but the Florida Atlantic University men's basketball team lost to Maryland 66-62 on Saturday.
The Owls (3-8) and Terrapins (7-4) were both sloppy early, but Maryland found its stride and eventually led by 13, 22-9. From that point, FAU went on a 19-7 run to pull within a point at 29-28 with less than three minutes to go in the first half. Maryland held off the rally and led 33-31 at the half.
The Terrapins built their lead back up to 12 with at the midway point of the second half, but the Owls fought their way back into the game and Pablo Bertone converted a three-point play to cut the deficit to 62-59 with 1:49 left on the clock. After a Kelvin Penn block, FAU missed a layup and the Terrapins hit a three-pointer as the shot clock expired to help put the game away. Botley hit a three-pointer at the buzzer for the final margin of victory.
Bertone had a team-high 21 points, and Penn had a career high 11 rebounds. The Owls will wrap up their three- game road trip on Tuesday when they play at Stetson. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. Live audio will be available on fausports.com and ESPN 106.3 FM.
