ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) -- Jermaine Taylor came off the bench to score a game-high 18 points, leading UCF to an 87-65 victory over Florida Atlantic on Saturday, giving the Knights their best start in 27 years.
UCF had not won its first six games since the 1979-80 season, when it competed in Division II. All six victories this season have come at home and against in-state schools.
Josh Peppers finished with 12 points and seven rebounds for the Knights. Stanley Billings also had 12 points.
UCF held Florida Atlantic to 26.9 percent shooting (7-26) in the first half.
Holley's two free throws with 5:22 remaining in the first half put the Owls up 26-25, but the Knights went on a 14-3 run to end the half and take a 39-29 lead at halftime.
UCF extended its lead to 21 on a pair of free throws from Billings with 9:45 remaining.
Florida Atlantic missed 35 of its first 45 shots.
