BOCA RATON, FL - Florida Atlantic University head men's basketball coach Mike Jarvis set the program record for most career wins with an 83-63 victory over Jacksonville on Saturday.
The Owls (3-6) led the game from start to finish. Jacksonville (3-5) didn't score its first field goal until more than four minutes into the game. Seven different FAU players scored in the first half, led by eight points from freshman D'Andre Johnson. The lead grew to as large as 18 points in the first half, but a Dolphin layup at the buzzer made the score 42-26 at the break.
After a JU jumper to open the second half, FAU went on an 18-6 run to seal the win. The Owls' lead never dipped below 20 points the rest of the game. Despite shooting 0-8 from the floor in the first half, Pablo Bertone recovered to lead all scorers with 20 points. Kelvin Penn added a career-high 15 points and eight rebounds. They were joined in double figures by Jackson Trapp (12) and Johnson (10).
The win was Jarvis' 69th as head coach of the Owls, surpassing Tim Loomis for most in school history.
