DELAND, FL - Greg Gantt had a career high 34 points, one of four Owls in double figures as the Florida Atlantic men's basketball team defeated Stetson 88-78 on Thursday night.
FAU (4-4) blitzed the Hatters (2-5) in the early going as Gantt scored 16 points in the game's first 12 minutes and the Owls grabbed an 30-14 lead. It seemed as though the contest was going to be a runaway, but FAU went six minutes without a field goal and Stetson managed to cut the lead to 31-24 with 3:11 left in the first half. The Owls rallied to take a 41-28 halftime lead.
The second half began with another fast FAU start and the Owls' led 54-38 at the first media timeout of the period. The Hatters scrapped their way back to within seven at the midway portion of the half, but could never get any closer as FAU kept finding way to make key baskets. Stetson made one final surge late in the game, but five straight Owl points ended any hopes of a rally.
Gantt was joined by Stefan Moody (17), Pablo Bertone (12) and Jordan McCoy (12) in double figures. It was Gantt's four straight game of at least 20 points. FAU will return to the Burrow on Sunday to play Warner. Game time is 3 p.m. and live stats and live audio will be available at www.fausports.com.
