DETROIT, MI - Pablo Bertone had a career high 29 points, but it was not enough, as the Florida Atlantic University men's basketball team lost to Toledo 94-74 in the 2K Sports Classic on Sunday.
The Owls (1-6) stayed close to the Rockets (6-0) through the beginning of the game, until a 10-2 run put Toledo up 38-23 at the four-minute mark of the first half. Toledo's advantage grew to as many as 19 early in the second half.
Bertone scored 17 of FAU's next 20 points to help pull the Owls within eight, but the Rockets responded with six straight points and the lead remained in double figures for the rest of the game. Bertone also added four assists on the day and was named to the All-Tournament Team. Jackson Trapp scored 14 points and Kelvin Penn came off the bench to register a career-high 11 points to go along with seven rebounds.
The Owls will take some time off before returning to the court to host in-state foe UCF on Tuesday, Dec. 3.
