ESTERO, Fla. - An extended offensive cold spell doomed the Florida Atlantic University men’s basketball team in a 71-60 loss to Missouri State at the Gulf Coast Showcase on Wednesday.
A Ronald Delph jumper put the Owls (2-3) up 17-15 at the nine-minute mark of the first half. From that point, the Bears (4-2) went on a 21-5 run to take a double-digit lead. Je’Quan Perry hit a three point just before the buzzer to cut the lead to 36-28 at the half. The cushion stretched to as many 23 points at 63-40. FAU was able to whittle the margin down to as little as nine in the final minute, but didn’t get any closer.
- Gerdarius Troutman led the Owls with 16 points, 13 coming in the second half.
- Anthony Adger and Jailyn Ingram each scored 12 points.
- William Pfister scored three points, but snagged five rebounds and blocked three shots.
- Amir Smith tallied six points, 10 rebounds and two blocks as a reserve.
