ESTERO, Fla.  – A late rally propelled the Florida Atlantic University men’s basketball team to a 77-67 win over NIU at the Gulf Coast Showcase on Tuesday. The Owls evened their record at 2-2 with the victory. 

Turning Point

FAU had a six-point lead halfway through the second half before NIU rallied to even the score at 55. The Owls scored the next five points in a row to regain the lead when the Huskies (2-2) answered with five consecutive points to level the score once again, this time at 60, setting up the dramatic finish.

 

The Finish

With the two teams knotted at 60, FAU went on an 8-0 run over the next three minutes to seize control of the contest. The margin remained at least six points the rest of the way. The Owls scored 51 second half points in the win.

 

Notables

  • Ronald Delph scored 19 points and tied his career high with 14 rebounds for his consecutive double-double and the eighth of his career.
  • Justin Massey posted 16 points in 20 minutes off the bench.
  • Anthony Adger added 15 points and Gerdarius Troutman chipped in 14, giving FAU four players in double-digit scoring. Adger also dished out five assists.
  • It’s the Owls first win over a Division I opponent this season.
