BOCA RATON, FL - A furious second half rally was not enough as the Florida Atlantic University men's basketball team lost to American 82-72 on Saturday.

The Owls (3-2) trailed by double figures for most the first half and American (4-0) led by 17 at the break, after scoring seven of the last eight points of the half. The Eagles' lead grew to as much as 22 in the second half, before FAU outscored American 36-15 over the next 14 minutes to cut the lead to one.

American scored the next four points, but a Brett Royster three-point play put the Owls back within a bucket at 73-71 with 1:46 remaining. The Owls would get no closer, however, going the rest of the game without a field goal. AU went 5-of-6 from the free throws line down the stretch to ice the victory.

Greg Gantt (18), Alex Tucker (14), Kore White (13) and Brett Royster (10) all finished in double figures for the Owls.
