WASHINGTON D.C. - Kore White had 13 points and eight rebounds to lead the Owls in both categories, but the Florida Atlantic men's basketball team lost to American on Wednesday night.
A slow start had FAU trailing American 9-4 more than 10 minutes into the game. The Owls (1-3) eventually found their rhythm and took a 18-16 lead late in the first half. American (1-2) soon retook control of the game's momentum, scoring the last 11 points of the half to take a 27-18 lead into the locker room.
Baskets by Jordan McCoy and Shavar Richardson cut the lead to five, 27-22 early in the second half, but FAU could never tie the game. The lead was as little as four points late in the game, but Charles Hinkle converted a four-point play to put the margin to eight.
An Alex Tucker layup cut the lead to four points with 23 seconds left, but American hit 4-of-6 free throws to clinch the victory.
FAU hosts George Mason in its home opener on Saturday at 7 p.m. The game is sold out, but live audio of the game will be broadcast on ESPN760AM, as well as www.espn760.com and www.fausports.com. Live stats will be available at www.fausports.com.
