BOCA RATON, FL - Junior center Dragan Sekelja had 21 points and 12 rebounds in the Florida Atlantic University men's basketball team's 87-80 exhibition win over Lynn University on Monday night.
The Baylor transfer had game highs in both categories, but had plenty of help in the scoring column as five other Owls also had double-digit points. The game was close from the outset as FAU was able to maintain a small lead, but were unable to gain a significant advantage over the Fighting Knights. That was due in part to Lynn's ability to compete with the Owls on the boards, as they were only outrebounded by two, 38-36.
FAU held a 42-35 lead at the half and opened the second half with a 13-5 run to gain a 55-40 edge. As the Knights had done all game, they managed to pull themselves back within striking distance and trailed by just four, 84-80 with 30 seconds left in the game. After Greg Gantt split a pair of free throws, an attempted three pointer was blocked by Kelvin Penn and a Gantt layup provided the final margin of victory.
The Owls open their regular season on Sunday, when they travel to #11 North Carolina as part of the EA Sports Maui Invitational. The game will be televised on ESPNU and live audio of the game will be available at www.fausports.com.
