Men’s Basketball Falls to Marshall 89-74 at C-USA Tournament
March 9, 2017

Final Stats

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - (March 8, 2017) – The Florida Atlantic University men’s basketball team fell victim to a hot shooting Marshall squad, as the Owls lost 89-74 in the first round of the Conference USA Tournament on Wednesday night.

The Turning Point

Nick Rutherford hit a runner to trim FAU’s (10-20) deficit to 13-11 less than six minutes into the game. Marshall (18-14) went on a 35-12 run to go ahead by 25. The Owls were able to cut the margin to 14 in the second half, but five straight Thundering Herd points foiled any hopes of a FAU comeback.

Quotables

Head Coach Michael Curry

“During that stretch when (Marshall’s Stevie) Browning hit those three threes, we missed three layups. Each time that happens, that's a five-point turnaround. (Marshall) got three of those in a row.”

“This (season) is still just the baseline. To get (the program) where we want it, we have to push even harder and put even more work in."

Looking Ahead

The Owls are expected to return all five starters for the 2017-18 season.
