Both teams struggled on the offensive end in the early going as they each managed just one basket through the first three minutes. FAU (13-17, 8-11 Sun Belt) scored seven of the game next nine points to take a 9-4 lead at the 14:23 mark of the first. The Trojans (15-14, 9-9) wouldn't let the Owls gain a significant advantage and tied the score at 17.FAU scored eight unanswered points to regain the lead and held a 29-23 advantage at the break.
Emotion began to take over in the second half as Dragan Sekelja and Michael Javes received offsetting technical fouls early in the period. The game became much more physical and resulted in numerous trips to the line for both teams.
The game fell into a pattern over the next several minutes with FAU building a double-digit lead and UALR fighting back to within striking distance. The Trojans were down nine, 66-57 at the 3:20 mark, when FAU scored five straight points to seal the win. Shooting proved the difference in the second half as the Owls hit 55 percent of their attempts in the final 20 minutes, compared to just 35 percent for the Trojans.
Gantt led all scorers with 26, while Moody had 25 points. Moody's scored 24 points in the first game against UALR. The Owls will not play again until their annual "Bury the Burrow In Red" Game against FIU on Saturday, March 2.
