BOCA RATON, Fla. - The Florida Atlantic University men's basketball team lost to Tulsa 71-52 on Thursday night. Two separate runs by the Golden Hurricane, combined by an off night from the floor for FAU were the difference in the game.
FAU (10-17, 5-7 C-USA) struggled to score in the early going, falling behind by eight points early in the first half. The Owls managed to find their shooting touch and cut the margin in half, before Tulsa (14-12, 9-3) scored 14 unanswered points to take a 32-14 advantage. The score was 34-18 at the half.
Freshmen Marquan Botley and D'Andre Johnson combined for five straight points to trim the deficit to 13, 43-30, soon after halftime. The Golden Hurricane scored seven consecutive points to push the lead out to 20, and the Owls never challenged again. FAU shot only 31.3 percent from the floor in the loss.
Johnson led the Owls with 12 points, while Justin Raffington narrowly missed his 10th double-double of the season with 10 points and nine rebounds. Botley added 11 points.
