MURFREESBORO, TN - A nine minute drought without field goal proved the difference in the Florida Atlantic University's men's basketball team 72-59 loss to Middle Tennessee on Saturday.

The Owls (11-16, 7-7 Sun Belt) trailed 14-12 after a Dennis Mavin jumper at the 10:33 mark of the first half. That was the last FAU field goal until Alex Tucker made a layin with 1:35 remaining in the half to make the score 29-20 in favor of the Blue Raiders (24-4, 13-1). The margin was 32-22 at the half. FAU shot just 26.1 percent from the floor in the first half.

FAU cut the lead to six on two separate occasions early in the second half, but then MT scored the next 12 points to push the lead to 18. The Owls clamped down on the defensive end and eventually got back within eight at 58-50 with 6:33 remaining, but another Blue Raider run closed the door on any hopes of any Owls comeback.

Shavar Richardson led FAU will 16 points. He was joined in double figures by teammates Dennis Mavin and Jordan McCoy, who both scored 10 points.

The Owls will host South Alabama at 7 p.m. on Thursday. Live stats and live audio of the game will be available at www.fausports.com.
