SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Despite three players scoring in double figures, the Florida Atlantic University men's basketball team lost to UTSA 66-56 on Saturday night.
The Owls (10-16, 5-6 C-USA) scored a season low 16 first half points on 21.2 percent shooting from the floor, which was also their lowest effort of the season. Defense is what kept FAU in the game, as the Roadrunners (8-16, 4-7 C-USA) shot just 39.3 percent as a team in the first 20 minutes. As a result, the Owls were within a dozen at the half, 28-16.
FAU rallied to within three early in the second half, but UTSA extended the lead back out to a dozen with just over seven minutes left. The Owls refused to go away and fought back to within four at the 1:42 mark, but the Roadrunners went 12-of-14 from the charity stripe down the stretch to seal the win.
Pablo Bertone led FAU with 16 points, followed by Marquan Botley (12) and Jackson Trapp (11).
