BOCA RATON, FL - Kore White scored a career high 23 points and Raymond Taylor added 23 points of his own in the Florida Atlantic 86-81 double overtime win over North Texas in Boca Raton on Saturday night.
FAU (11-14, 7-5 Sun Belt) trailed by 10 at the half and the lead ballooned to 19 early in the second half. North Texas (14-11, 7-5) led 56-42 at the 7:50 mark when the Owls began to make a charge. Taylor hit a three pointer with 7:04 remaining to put him over 1,000 points for his career.
Dennis Mavin's defense was key down the stretch as the Mean Green made only one field goal over the last 6:43 of regulation. The Owls trailed by three with less than a minute remaining in regulation when Alex Tucker hit a three pointer after two FAU offensive rebounds to tie the game. An NT three-pointer at the buzzer missed and the teams headed to overtime.
FAU trailed by three in the first overtime when White converted a three-point play to tie the game at 69. The score was tied at 73 when the Owls had a chance to take the lead, but a pair of missed free throws forced the Owls to make another defensive stand to force a second overtime.
The Owls never trailed in the second overtime, taking the lead on a White dunk and the Mean Green missed four three throws in the second extra session. Alex Tucker and Pablo Bertone both had 11 points and Tucker added six assists. FAU is now 2-1 this season in overtime games, beating George Mason and North Texas and losing to Miami.
