BOCA RATON, Fla. - A career high 34 points from Pablo Bertone propelled the Florida Atlantic University men's basketball team to a 82-71 victory over UAB on Saturday night.
After trailing 38-32 at the half, the Owls (9-15, 4-5 C-USA) shot 57.1 percent from the floor in the second half. UAB led by eight early in the second half before FAU went on a 10-1 run to briefly take a 42-41 lead.
The Blazers pushed their lead back to five at 57-52 at the nine minute mark, when Bertone stepped to the forefront. He scored 12 consecutive points to help the Owls take a 64-59 advantage.
Bertone's outburst was combined with a stout FAU defensive effort, which held the Blazers just two field goals in over eight minutes to help clinch the win.
Marquan Botley narrowly missed a triple-double with 11 points, eight rebounds and eight assists. D'Andre Johnson (13) and Kelvin Penn (11) gave the Owls four players in double-figures.
