BOCA RATON, FL - The Florida Atlantic men's basketball team stayed competitive for most of the night against Middle Tennessee, but ultimately came up short, falling 73-56 to the Blue Raiders on Saturday night.
Stefan Moody led the Owls (11-13, 6-7 Sun Belt) with 17 points and Greg Gantt added 13. Raymond Cintron scored 16 off the bench for MT (20-4, 12-1). The game was a battle throughout as loose balls sent players from both teams diving to the floor several times.
Despite falling behind 13-4 early in the game, FAU chipped away at the lead and tied the score on two occasions later in the half. The Blue Raiders took the lead into the locker room, scoring the last six points of the half.
Gantt hit a layup to pull the Owls within five, 48-43 at the 10:26 mark of the second half, but MT went on a 19-6 run to seal the win. The difference came in shooting, as the Blue Raiders shot 55.6 percent from the floor, compared to 40.8 percent for FAU.
The Owls will travel to Miami on Thursday night to play rival FIU. The tip is set for 7 p.m. Live stats audio will be available at www.fausports.com.
