Final Stats

JACKSONVILLE, AL - Florida Atlantic University was defeated by Jacksonville State University, 83-77, Saturday night in Jacksonville, AL. The loss drops FAU to 5-14 overall and 1-6 in the Atlantic Sun Conference. JSU improves to 11-6 and 5-3 in the A-Sun.

FAU's Earnest Crumbley led all scorers with 24 points. He went 7-for-14 from the field and 9-for-10 from the line. Jeff Cowans tossed in 21 for the Owls.

JSU had four players in double figures. Omar Barlett posted a double-double with 19 points and 13 rebounds. James Denson added 18. Poonie Richardson and Jay Heard scored 13 and 10, respectively.

FAU outshot JSU 46.3 percent to 43.1 percent but was outrebounded 46-33. From beyond the arc, the Owls went 8-for-17 for the game for 47.1 percent. Cowans went 3-for-4 while Drew Skeeter went 2-for-2 on his way to nine points off the bench.

The Owls committed 17 turnovers while the Gamecocks gave up the ball 15 times.

"The two deciding factors were JSU's 24 offensive rebounds and our 17 turnovers because we outshot them from the field," said FAU head coach Sidney Green

"Our players are playing hard, and we have nothing but winners on this team," added Green. "The unfortunate thing is we're just not getting the breaks when we need them."

JSU led virtually from start to finish. The Gamecocks led by as many as 15 point with 7:29 left in the game while FAU's only lead, at 4-2, came at the 18:36 mark of the first half. JSU led 45-33 at the half and increased that margin to 74-59 with 7:29 to go before FAU tried to rally. The Owls went on a 7-0 run that included back-to-back threes by Skeeter that helped make it 74-66 JSU with 6:26 remaining.

FAU would get as close as four points twice with under a minute remaining but failed to get the ball back with a chance to, at best, tie the game. A Cowans jumper with 22 seconds left made it 81-77 JSU. The Gamecocks sealed the win when Josh Perry scored against the FAU full-court pressure to make it 83-77 with 15 seconds left.
