Men’s Hoops Extends Winning Streak 75-64 Over Charlotte

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University men’s basketball team stretched its winning streak to three games with a 75-64 victory over Charlotte on Thursday night. The Owls now possess a .500 record both overall (9-9) and in Conference USA play (3-3). It’s the latest in the season FAU has been .500 since the 2010-11 season.


The Start

Three Justin Massey three-pointers put the Owls up 10-6 early in the game. The 49ers (5-12, 1-5) trimmed the lead to one 26-25 later in the first half, but FAU answered with a dozen straight points to extend its lead to 38-25. A Charlotte dunk just before the buzzer made the score 38-27 at the half.

The Finish

Charlotte was able to pull within six on three separate occasions in the second half, the final time coming with 7:26 to go in the game. The Owls scored eight unanswered points in just over three minutes to end any hopes of a 49er comeback.


  • Massey scored 17 first half points as part of a team-high 19 point night.
  • Amir Smith, William Pfister and Jailyn Ingram all had 11 points for FAU. The total was a season high for Smith. Pfister and Smith each had eight rebounds, while Ingram added three assists and a steal.
  • Pfister snagged a career high five steals.
  • As a team, FAU outrebounded Charlotte 36-31.
