BOCA RATON, FL - For the second game in a row, the Florida Atlantic men's basketball team had to rally from an early first half deficit to defeat a conference opponent. This time, the Owls' timely shooting from the perimeter helped them defeat East Carolina 78-67 on Thursday night.
FAU (6-11, 2-1 C-USA) trailed by 11 in the first half before Jackson Trapp hit five three-pointers to help tie the score at 30. ECU (11-6, 0-2) hit a three-pointer of its own just before the buzzer to take a 33-30 lead at the half.
The Owls rattled off 18 points in the first five minutes of the second half to take a 48-44 lead. The game remained competitive, with the lead changing hands four times in a span of less than three minutes. With the score tied at 56 with just over nine minutes remaining, FAU used a true team effort during its decisive run.
Four different FAU players scored during a 17-5 spurt that sealed the win for the Owls. Marquan Botley scored 16 of his 17 points during the second half, while Trapp ended with a game high 22 points. Justin Raffington notched his fifth straight double-double with 12 points and 14 rebounds.
FAU continues its three game homestand on Saturday when Old Dominion comes to FAU Arena. Saturday's matchup will be FAU Family Night.
