LITTLE ROCK, AR - The Florida Atlantic men's basketball team had yet another tremendous defensive effort, but it was not enough to overcome a sloppy offensive performance, as the Owls lost to UALR 40-38 on Saturday.
The Owls (5-11, 1-2 Sun Belt) once again fell behind early in the contest, this time facing a seven point deficit less than six minutes into the game. The lead grew to eight late in the half, helped in part by FAU going nearly seven minutes without a field goal, but the Owls closed on a 6-0 run to cut the lead to 22-20 at the halftime break.
In the second half, FAU clawed its way into the lead, aided by a UALR (6-11, 3-0) dry spell, as the Trojans went almost nine minutes without converting from the field. Greg Gantt put the Owls ahead 34-32 with a three-pointer at the 6:20 mark of the second half. Back to back buckets by Kore White gave FAU a 38-32 lead with 4:26 remaining.
The Owls would not score the remainder of the game, and the Trojans ended the game on a 8-0 streak. D'Andre Williams hit a running layup at with four seconds left to put UALR ahead. FAU had a three pointer at the buzzer for a win, but could not convert. Kore White had game highs in both points (17) and rebounds (seven).
FAU will head to Jonesboro to face Arkansas State on Monday night. Tip-off is set for 8:05 p.m. eastern and live audio of the game will be available at www.fausports.com.
