BOCA RATON, FL - Senior Brett Royster scored a season high 14 points in the Florida Atlantic men's basketball team's 65-57 win over South Alabama on Thursday night.
The Owls (10-6, 3-0) played stifling defense in the first half, holding the Jaguars (7-7, 1-2) to just 17 points before halftime. The total was the lowest given up by FAU all season. The Owls held USF to just 18 first half points on Dec. 4. The score was 27-17 at the half, in part due to eight offensive rebounds for USA.
The lead grew as large as 14 in the second half, before the Jaguars closed to within six, 53-47, with 5:36 left in the game. FAU then went on a decisive 7-0 run to seal the victory. The win makes the Owls 3-0 in conference for the first time as members of the Sun Belt.
Royster was joined in double figures by Raymond Taylor (15) and Greg Gantt (14). FAU will look for its first 4-0 start since the 1996-97 season on Saturday when they host Arkansas State on Saturday night. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. Live audio will be available at www.fausports.com.
