BOCA RATON, FL - The Florida Atlantic University men's basketball team kicked off the new year with an 81-47 defeat of Warner on Wednesday.
The Owls (4-10) blitzed their way out to a 20-3 lead eight minutes into the game and never looked back. Defensively, FAU held the Royals to 22 percent shooting from the field. That is the lowest field goal percentage of any FAU opponent this season. The Owls held Warner to 26.7 percent shooting in last year's meeting.
Freshman Marquan Botley had a team high 17 points to go along with five rebounds and four assists. Justin Raffington (15), Pablo Bertone (14) and Javier Lacunza (11) also scored in double figures for the Owls. Raffington and Richard Morrow both grabbed 11 rebounds, while Dragan Sekelja pulled down 10 of his own. Raffington recorded his third double-double of the season. As a team, FAU set a school record with 61 rebounds in the game.
