Assistant Coach

Jeff Guin begins his second season as an assistant coach at Florida Atlantic University. He was the first new staff member hired by head coach Rex Walters last year. He will work with the post players, focus on recruiting in Florida and the Midwest, serve as staff contact for Roundballer's Club, oversee budget issues, and be responsible for scheduling.

Prior to joining the FAU staff in May 2006, Guin spent three seasons as an assistant coach at Western Illinois, where the 2004-05 team improved by eight wins over his rookie season. His primary duties at WIU were recruiting, individual instruction, scouting, team travel and academic advising.

Guin served in an administrative role with the University of Illinois from 1997 to 2003, where he concentrated his efforts on scouting, tape exchange, day-to-day office operations, and directing the Illini summer basketball camps.

He helped Illinois to five NCAA Tournament appearances, three Big Ten titles (1998, 2001, 2002) and a Big Ten Tournament title in 2003. The Illini's five NCAA Tournament appearances included both Elite Eight and Sweet 16 berths.

Prior to beginning his coaching career at Illinois, Guin served as a student manager at the University of Florida for both Lon Kruger (1993-96) and Billy Donovan (1996-97). Under Kruger, Guin helped the Gators to a Final Four trip in 1994 and an NCAA Tournament berth in 1995.

Guin also gained valuable experience working for two summers with USA Basketball. In 1995 he was a member of the support staff for the World University Games team trials and training camp, and in 1996 he was on the support staff for the Olympic Team Exhibition Tour and the Olympic Games.

Guin completed three degrees during his time at Florida - a bachelor's degree in education in 1995, a master's in education in 1996, and a master's in sport management in 1997. Prior to attending Florida he played two years at Okaloosa-Walton Community College in Niceville, FL, where he earned Academic All-America NJCAA Region 8 honors in 1992 and 1993.

Originally from Fort Walton Beach, FL, Guin and his wife, Betsy, are the parents of twins, Troy Michael and Ellee Jane, born December 27, 2005.
