Boca Raton, FL - Senior pitcher Hugh Adams and senior infielder Mark Nelson have been selected as team captains for the 2013 Florida Atlantic University baseball team. The selection was made by the duo’s teammates and the Owls’ coaching staff.
“Both Hugh and Mark are senior leaders who have earned the respect of the team as well as the coaches,” said John McCormack, FAU’s head baseball coach.
FAU is the defending Sun Belt Conference regular-season champions -- the team’s second league title in the last three seasons – and had a 32-22 record last season. The program has had 14 consecutive winning seasons.
Adams earned All-South Central region honors as a closer in 2011. The right hander from Bethesda, MD led the SBC with 10 saves that season, striking out 29 batters in 36.2 innings and appearing in 28 games. He returns for his fifth season after missing last season because with an injury.
Nelson, a first baseman from Orlando, led the Owls with 45 runs batted in and was one of three players to hit seven home runs last season. He hit .290 with 12 doubles and led the 2012 team with 33 walks.
