Team Billings Sweeps Fall World Series

Boca Raton, FL - The Florida Atlantic University baseball team has turned its attention to the 2013 season after concluding fall practice with Team Billings' triumph in the program's intra-squad Fall World Series.

Team Billings, coached by Assistant Coach Rich Billings, completed a three-game series sweep with a 9-4 triumph over Team Hart on Friday, October 9, at the FAU Stadium.

A three-run home run by junior outfielder Tyler Rocklein gave Team Billings a 3-0 first-inning advantage. Freshman outfielder Gabriel Aurrecoechea and sophomore shortstop Mitch Morales scored after having base hits.

Freshman pitcher Brandon Rhodes surrendered two runs over 3.2 innings in picking up a victory. The left hander had two strikeouts. Fellow freshman Chris Walkerow picked up the save after scattering three hits over 3.1 innings.

Rocklein paced Team Billings' offensive attack, going 3-for-4 with four runs batted in and two runs scored. Sophomore infielder Ricky Santiago had two hits.

For Team Hart, junior infielder Nick Worrall drove in two runs and had two hits. Freshman infielders Esteban Puerta and Cain Spangler also added two hits for the squad.

FAU will open the 2013 season at home against the University of Cincinnati on February 15. Season and single game tickets are available by contacting the FAU Ticket Office at 1-866-FAU-OWLS.

The Owls are the defending Sun Belt Conference regular-season champions.
