The Florida Atlantic University `Iron Owl' award is a fall competition that indentifies the strongest Owl baseball player - both mentally and physically. A series of events will be held throughout the fall season that tests each student-athletes' physical strength, knowledge of the game and academic performance.

Each event and category (examples include the gator push, final grades, weight room performance) is graded and a running total of each player's rank is kept. Updated standings and results can be viewed on FAU's official athletics website, FAUSPORTS.com.

The `Iron Owl' competition is new for the 2009 preseason. Its goal is the encouragement of team camaraderie, while at the same time making sure each individual player understands what is like to compete on a daily basis. It is our aim that each player reaches their highest-potential in the weight room, on the field and in the classroom.

The `Iron Owl' will be awarded a trophy on Opening Day 2009.

We hope you follow us this fall and look forward to seeing everyone in the spring!
