Boca Raton, FL - The Florida Atlantic University baseball team will hit the field and face different competition when it host Team British Columbia in an exhibition game on Wednesday, October 24, at 6:30 p.m. at the FAU Baseball Stadium, 777 Glades Road on the Boca Raton campus. The game is open to the public.
The Owls have completed three weeks of fall practices and played 10 intra-squad scrimmages heading into the game.
FAU returns six position players and two starting pitchers from last season’s Sun Belt Conference championship squad. Leading some of the returnees is senior first baseman Mark Nelson, who hit seven home runs and had a team-high 45 runs batted in. Senior outfielder Corey Keller also connected on seven home runs with a .302 batting average. Senior catcher Mike Spano earned second-team All-Sun Belt Conference honors last spring.
On the mound, sophomore Austin Gomber struck out 63 batters with a 3.82 earned run average. The left hander posted a 3-4 record in 2012. Junior Kevin Alexander went 5-1 with a 3.29 ERA and junior Jeremy Strawn returns after suffering an early season injury.
FAU will also host an Alumni Game on Saturday, October 27 during Homecoming festivities before concluding fall workouts with a four-game World Series, beginning November 7 through November 10.
